🆕 Axie Origin is Released!

It has been a wild past couple of weeks as the Axie community has finally been given access to the Origin Alpha gameplay itself. As many people have expected, the Axie Origin meta has started to bud as players have been rushing to find the next best team or Axie build. Of course, this journey has been a bit difficult due to some limitations such as bugs that have not allowed certain cards or build to work such as:

  • The Discount Coupon does not work
  • Tricky does not function as intended
  • Bidens is unfortunately broken as well
  • Serious does not need any actual discard to be played
  • Shoal Star has weird interactions with bubble

(Some of this information was gathered from the following sources: 1 )

This guide will be focused on Axie Origin with the assumption that these bugs are not intended and are not a part of the gameplay. This guide is also meant to be a resource for theory crafters and some speculative fun for those wondering what the meta in V3 will look like.

🧠 Four Utility builds with crazy combos

🐉 The V3 Disablesaur

The disablesaur was a staple backline in V2 and was an absolute beast of a control Axie back in S18 and S19. Unfortunately, this Axie was eventually overshadowed by the heavy bug, beast, and mech meta that was seen in S20 of V2. However, it seems that we are starting to witness the return of this magnificent Axie in Origin. I would like to preface that despite the return, the disablesaur now has a new role as Green Thorns has become quite the poison card. It is important that we make that distinction as the old disablesaur was a general all-rounder that could be placed in many different comps.

The main focus of this comp has not changed as the primary goal of this Axie is to disable your enemy Axies’ and stall the game for as long as possible. The biggest changes would be the fact that you really want to have the disablesaur on a reptile body while using it effectively within a poison comp. The parts that have changed from the original V2 build would be the eyes, ears and tail. You now want Scar and Rosa as tutor cards are very crucial for all types of comps in V3 and Rosa is very powerful as an early game card that can truly help you if the initial card draw is suboptimal.

🍄 The Toxizilla

🍥
Origin Axie Build Database

It seems that disablesaurs are not the only meta poison Axies in Origin, with the introduction of V3 Green Thorns we have started to see new variants. Today I introduce the Toxizilla. This is a much more poison/AoE-oriented Axie build that will be crucial for most poison team comps. This Axie will have a much more aggressive playstyle so he would most likely be found in the midline or backline. The interesting thing about this Axie is that it can be played as either a dusk or reptile depending on what suits your comp. The main difference between this Axie and the other disablesaurs would be its tail. The Toxizilla opts for Gila for the synergy with poison and for the additional damage.

So as many of you readers have expected, the key to this Origin build is to increase the number of poison stacks so that you may deal a large amount of damage with Gila. This is why having this build on a Dusk might be beneficial as dusks benefit greatly from its mystic rune: Gloomy Dice. Dusks are fantastic at stalling the game and biding you time to set up your poison combos.

Some of the key charms you will want on this Axie is Pre-order Tag for your Scar as that allows you to have a tutor card on your initial draw which is very important to get a good start for your match. Other recommended charms would be Sticky Lizard or Discount Coupon to help provide some more consistency and flexibility to your build as this comp has very little energy generation, so the added retain and -1 energy cost can prove to be very useful.

😱Gloomysaur

🍥
Origin Axie Build Database

On the topic of dusk Axies, it seems that dusks are no longer the fast and tanky hard hitters that we saw in V3. Due to some of the runes such as Gloomy Dice, we have seen a new playstyle emerge. Namely, curse decks that have the ability to shuffle detrimental cards into the opponent’s deck. This new Axie called the Gloomysaur focuses on the Fear and Hex status effect. Enemies who play attack cards when feared will end up shuffling useless Confused cards into their draw pile and enemies that play skill cards when hexed will suffer the same fate. The focus of this build is having Grass Snake, Ear breathing, and a fear-inflicting card such as Cute Bunny. The ultimate goal is to render your opponents useless by shuffling large amounts of Confused and Goo cards into their deck.

As you would have probably guessed, you will most definitely want Gloomy dice on this Axie and have him placed in the midline. The reason being is that there is little to no sustainability from this utility Axie, it has zero shielding and healing so it’s wise that you have another Axie acting as the front tank. It would be even better if you could have an entire team of dusks all equipped with Gloomy Dice. I recommend a tanky disabler in the front line such as a Termi and a hard-hitting damage dealer in the backline.

Some of the important charms to have on this Axie are Sun Stamp and Discount Coupon. Especially to deal with face rush teams such as triple rage or triple aqua-based comps.

💎 The Topaz Supporter

🍥
Origin Axie Build Database

Now I know most of the Utility-based Axies I’ve shown thus far have been primarily debuff-oriented Axies but fret not. This Axie will support your team and one-shot the opponent. The Topaz Supporter is a fierce support tank that’s also tuned to provide additional damage through the use of Topaz. As you may expect, Topaz is the primary focus of this Axie. To allow this build to thrive, you must have Hollow, Watering Can or any part that can provide a lot of sustain and banished cards. Strawberry can also help increase the number of cards in your banished pile which will eventually help your Supporter deal massive damage in the later rounds.

My only piece of advice is to remember that this Axie is primarily support based which means that Topaz is simply a bonus, the true utility is from the sheer amount of heal and shielding that is in this Axie’s kit. I highly recommend that individuals tweak around and use alternative cards if there is a need for adjustments. Other cards that would also work nicely are Teal shell, Timber and Clover. It is recommended that this Axie takes Gaia’s Embrace as a rune and takes Ancient Root and Discount Coupon as charms. As for teammates, it is essential to have an Aqua Axie with Heart of the Ocean so that you are able to actually sustain yourself against a face rush comp.

Recommended Charms and Runes:

Runes
Eye Charm
Ear Charm
Mouth Charm
Horn Charm
Back Charm
Tail Charm
Gaia’s Embrace /Healing Pulse
Discount Coupon
Ancient Root

💡 Conclusion

We hope that this build guide has provided some insight into some of the new types of Axie classes not seen before in V2. Remember that the meta will be forever shifting and that these should be some more basic guidelines for Origin builds and compositions. If you want to have a much more in-depth review on some of these builds I highly recommend some of the following videos:
